Robert R. Tabor, teacher and principal
Robert R. Tabor, 84, a former Fairfax High School principal who taught high school in Northern Virginia for 57 years, died Feb. 4 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg of congestive heart failure.
His wife, Elizabeth Tabor, confirmed the death.
Mr. Tabor retired in 2010 as an assistant principal, teacher and football coach of Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington. He taught government and coached football at Oakton High School from 1976 to 1983.
Earlier in his career, he was a principal and teacher at Fairfax High School.
Robert Ray Tabor was a native of Bluefield, W.Va., and a 1950 biology graduate of what is now Shepherd University in West Virginia. He served in the Marine Corps for two years before receiving a master’s degree in education administration from the College of William & Mary in 1954.
A longtime Fairfax County resident, he relocated to Locust Grove, Va., in 2010.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, of Locust Grove; and two children, Rachel Tabor of Locust Grove and Robert Tabor of Barboursville, Va.
